Top Ten Favorite Songs: Lakeview Amphitheater Version

Pitbull was on Good Morning America this morning, and his new song Messin’ Around has riffs from REO Speedwagon’s Take It On The Run. Not one of my fave REO songs, nevertheless it is so cool that kids today are exposed to some of the great bands of the 70’s!

There is a new concert venue here in Syracuse, the Lakeview Amphitheater.  The first concert was last September, then it was a bit quiet over there, but now the concert season is upon with a vengeance.  Tonight’s concert Ringo Starr and His All Star Band has inspired me to put a list together of songs I love by bands (and people) that are playing there this summer.  If you live in the CNY area, you can look forward to other concerts including Dave Matthews, Journey and Doobie Brothers, and Tesla, REO Speedwagon, and Def Leppard, among others.

Here is Ringo with a different sort of all star band in 2009.

I Saw The Light by Todd Rundgren and Daryl Hall

I love catching musicians on Live At Daryl’s House and the performances that come out of it. If you want to see Mobius Jones cover this tune this summer, check out our event, Bands On The Run.

Hold The Line by Toto

One of the guys in Ringo’s All Star Band is Steve Lukather from Toto. Here’s one of their most popular tunes.

Black Magic Woman by Santana

Gregg Rolie is one of the co-founders of Santana.  Here’s a great video from 1970, with a very young Carlos.

Kyrie by Mr. Mister

Richard Page of Mr. Mister is another one of the All Stars. What a powerful singing voice!

Roll With The Changes by REO Speedwagon

There are so many songs I love by this band and we sing them whenever the bands are jamming. This song has perhaps some of the greatest lyrics ever:

“If you are tired of the same old story, turn some pages”

Listen To The Music by The Doobie Brothers

Here’s some old school Doobies (no, not that kind of doobies)

Lights by Journey

So many people know about Journey today because of the Sopranos finale and Glee, but this quieter one is of my faves.

Ants Marching by Dave Matthews

I will admit I know next to nothing about Dave Matthews, except for his acting turn in Adam Sandler’s movie Just Go With It, where he plays Nicole Kidman’s husband.  This is one of my friend Caitlyn’s favorites by him.

With A Little Help From My Friends by Ringo Starr

No list could be complete without this famous tune from the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.  It is appropriate because he has more friends than anyone I know!

Messin’ Around by Pitbull Feat Enrique Iglesias

Bonus: I thought I would include the Pitbull video mentioned at the top of the blog.  It is a bit racy, but Pitbull is spicy.  305 represent!
